Adventure Story Book Club ~ Snow Theme Book & Activity Learning Unit
We haven’t received any snow for our “Snow” theme book club activities this month. Although we had no real snow to play in, I was inspired by all of the snow and ice activities I’ve been reading about in the blog world lately.
Ice Cube Experiment:
- ice cube
- piece of string
- glass of water
- table salt.
Wet the string in the glass of water, place it on the ice cube and sprinkle salt over the string. Wait a few minutes and you’ll be able to pick up the ice cube using just the string!
What kids learn: Salt decreases the temperature of the ice. As the wet string melts into the cube, it freezes
(because it’s wet and the internal temperature of the ice is still cold).
Mix together the following 2 ingredients
- Mix together 3/4 cup of shaving cream
- with 1/4 cup of white glue. (added extra glue because my kids though it was too fluffy to work with)
Lastly, I froze a number of small toys in ice cube trays and put them in the freezer before going to bed. In the morning we were greeted with a fun defrosting activity.
What is Adventure Story Book Club?:
Adventure Story Book Club is a free monthly book club where we will be taking a themed monthly topic and selecting any book that is appropriate to the theme. Then, on the 3rd Friday of the month we will share the book we chose and share a fun activity, something themed related for the book that they selected. The age range is selected by the participant bloggers, so it can range from Pre-K to 12th. Our desire is to help you take your children on an adventure each month by exploring new books along with themed crafts and activities.
