Homemade Crock Pot Applesauce

Monday, October 23rd, 2017
Hurray its Fall!!! Here in the Rettig house it is one of our very favorite times of the year. Its the time of the year that crisp air calls for oversized sweaters, bonfires, pumpkin patches, and Apple Orchards. I going to go out on the limb and say although we love all things pumpkin spice we are equally huge fans of the Apple Spice life! With apple prices under a dollar at most of the stores here in Kentucky. I predict we will be making lots of yummy Apple treats in the near future.
Here is a simple yummy crock pot homemade applesauce recipe. approx. 10mins to prep

This recipe is very easy for kids to get involved to help make

  • 9 medium apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
  • 3 tablespoons of Brown Sugar (We used Coconut Sugar)
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Cherry Pepper Black Bean Hummus

1 (15 oz) can black beans rinsed and drained

2 Tbsp olive oil

2 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 Tbsp. white wine vinegar

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 cup chopped onion

1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic

1-2 tsp Hot Cherry Pepper Hoagie Spread to add spice or 1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped roasted red bell pepper

If you want it to be thicker add 1/3 cup Tahini

Combine the black beans, tahini (optional), lemon juice, olive oil, white wine vinegar, onions, hot cherry peppers, and garlic cloves into a food processor and blend until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Hummus pairs great with:

  • Raw Vegetables
  • Toasted Pita Chips
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Spread onto toasted baguette
  • Spread onto a sandwich in place of mustard and mayo
  • Spread onto flat bread or pizza crust in place of tomato sauce
