Book we choose: If You Live Here : Houses of the World by Giles Laroche

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

This month we step into unique homes from around the world and discover the many fascinating ways in which people live and have lived. If you lived in the mountains of southern Spain, your bedroom might be carved out of a mountain. If you lived in a village in South Africa, the outside of your house might tell the story of your family. And if you lived in a floating greenhouse in the Netherlands, you could rotate your house to watch both the sunrise and sunset. Giles Laroche takes you on a journey around the world explaining the reason why each home was constructed the way in which it was, then lets us imagine what it would be like to live in homes so different from our own.

My children loved this book. Each page they would look at the home and try to guess where they thought it was from. Which in turn lead into a competition of who could accurately guess the most correct locations. I was amazed that by just studying the beautiful cut paper illustrations they were able to guess a number of correct locations and each page was like a new adventure.

We located each home one the world map. Then at the end of the book we talked about which home we would want to live in and discussed why we would choose that particular one.

Then we learned the 7 Continents Song

7 Continents Song:

Europe, Asia,
Af-ri-ca
North & South America
Then we have Antarctica
Don’t forget Australia
7 CONTINENTS 7 CONTINENTS

We then put together a book of Me on the Map.
